The South African Social Attitudes Survey (SASAS) won the 2018 NSTF-SOUTH32 Data for Research Award. This award is for an outstanding contribution to science, engineering, technology (SET) and innovation in South Africa by advancing the availability, management and use of data for research. The award recognises the work of an individual or a team (including for example researchers / scientists, data scientists, data stewards) for the generation, preservation and sharing of a valuable scientific resource in the form of a data set / or data collection process for a data set, that is of national interest or for the public good, and that is openly available to be re-used and / or re-packaged in products that are of public good and interest, or that could be integrated into products that contribute to the development of South Africa.
